Florida Flash Writing Workshop (F2W2)
What is it?
The Florida Flash Writing Workshop (F2W2) is an annual, fully virtual conference that explores the writing process.
blur_linear Attendees are asked to write a short piece based on a prompt provided by the Center for Interdisciplinary Writing and Research.The prompt changes every year.
blur_linear Attendees are given a short period of time (from a few days to no more than a week) to complete their work and submit it to the conference.Attendees are given a link to all of the submissions.
blur_linear During the conference, attendees discuss the writing process, their reactions to the submissions, and vote on their favorites.
blur_linear The top 3 submissions win a cash prize.
Who can participate?
The short answer is everyone, including you! Most of our initiatives are focused on members of the higher education community, but members from the broader community who like writing and discussing writing are welcome too. Although the workshop is based in Florida, because of the virtual nature of the conference, we welcome attendees from around the globe. The only limitation is, because of the lack of language support, the conference is completely in English (written and oral communication).
2024 F2W2
The 2024 F2W2 was our first annual writing conference and great example of future iterations. Attendees received a prompt on the Friday following Thanksgiving. The prompt was simple: write a short story of no more than 500 words that had starts with the following sentence, “The letter was addressed to someone who no longer existed.” Attendees had four days to complete their short stories. After submissions were received, we met a few days later to discuss the writing process, the works themselves, and vote on our favorites.The submissions took many different approaches, and all of the pieces were excellent. The voting was close, but two pieces stood out.
